House Destroyed In Morning Fire
On January 20, 1984 at 8:33 a.m. firefighters were dispatched to 1003 Kessler Drive, Southampton Township Franklin for a house fire. A fire of undetermined origin completely destroyed an occupied 1-½-story wood frame modular house and its contents, displacing a family of four. Approximately 40 firefighters from seven fire companies battled the blaze for almost three hours in 10-degree weather. Firefighters had trouble obtaining water after finding frozen hydrants. Vigilant Assistant Chief Brad Myers suffered second degree burns in the fire. Damages were estimated at $50,000. The Vigilant Hose, Cumberland Valley Hose, West End Fire and Rescue, Pleasant Hall, Fayetteville, Newburg-Hopewell and South Newton Twp. fire companies answered the alarm.

Vigilant Asst Chief Brad Myers , Did I miss something ? Sounds like a great possibilty for when you retire and you and Linda move back to the Shippensburg.

ReplyDeleteYou didn't miss anything Seagrave, I was assistant chief that year. The moving back to Shippensburg thing will never happen, after retirement I hope to move someplace warmer.

ReplyDeleteThe lost for words is all the action in the pictures, you bring the Assistant Chief, which I didn't know, but I was out of the area for some time. I wasn't thinking about you getting burnt. I just didn't know what to say this morning.

ReplyDeleteI do not know if Jeff W. is in the field right now or not, but it would be nice to see what he had to say about this job. There was many more things happening than you see in the photos. But I will not be the one to pass it along.
This was a good fire for about 5 minutes after arrival, then in short order it burnt to the ground. I destroyed a good New Yorker that was not even mine. I thought Sam Norris was MIA for a brief period. I can remember Charlie Myers and Charlie Westcott begging us to get out.

Lt Dan.... i have a coat and helmet that i trashed on this fire, roofing tar all over the stuff except where the bottle was
ReplyDeleteI learned never to go to the roof alone on that fire. I almost fell through the roof and I think it would have been a while till anyone missed me.
