These are the last of the Code 3 items I have for sale. Diamond Plate 1/32 FDNY Squad 61 for $75.00. This is an awesome rig with great detail, they sold for over $200.00 when released. They have never been removed from the box. I also have the regular size FDNY Engine 10, this is the Seagrave engine located across from the World Trade Center and FDNY Engine 290 this was a limited run rig it is a CF Mack rapid water unit. Each of these are $20.00 and I have several of each rig. If you live local we can meet in person so no shipping will be needed.
Now for a question from the visitors. This past week the numbers went up for a few days because of people coming onto the site from Face book. You do not have to leave a name but could someone please tell me whose face book I am on that is letting people link onto the site. If things go well at work over the next few O.T. shifts I should have some posts ready for next week.Brad Myershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01884406142470585950noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3458521722599009560.post-88297512597668855822011-10-07T08:29:00.001-04:002011-10-07T08:36:07.318-04:00Stick With Me As I Make Changes...If there is anybody out there, at the moment it does not seem like it. Be patient as I try to make change to the blog to make it better. After updating the computer to work with the new blogger I need to make adjustments so everything looks correct. I can see that it will be for the better as blogger is easier to work with and the photos and post can be much larger making the home page look better and easier for us that can see to see. I kind of feel like I am falling on deaf ears since I have posted three days in a row and with each day less and less has looked at the site. Remember folks I have a life other than this blog and time is short these days. Give me one year four months and eleven days I and will have plenty of time after burning my bridges behind me.

You will also notice that at the bottom of each post there is a tool bar that will now allow you to email the post or put it on Facebook, twitter or +1 it what ever all that means. I am guessing that some of you know all of that is about but I have no idea.

In case some of you did not know it I have another blog for photographs, much of my free time is spent photographing wildlife. I recently photographed some of the Elk rut in Northern Pa. and you can check those photos out here.Brad Myershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01884406142470585950noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3458521722599009560.post-74372195061801263722011-10-07T05:09:00.008-04:002011-10-07T05:09:00.107-04:00Vigilant Hose Company's New Tanker 52 Has Arrived...

Both of those will be another post. The best surprise was finding the Vigilant's new Tanker setting on the apron while the radios were being installed.

Now I do not know much about the rig but I will pass along what I know and have found on the Internet. The rig is a 2011 International Work Star chassis with the body built by 4-guys. The rig carries 3,000 gallons of water and has a 1,250 gpm Hale pump and (3) 10" dump valves. The unit had been on order and arrived in Shippensburg on Friday September 30, 2011. The company has already begun training on the vehicle. As for the old Tanker I was told that it was removed from service and that it was also sold and possibly ending up in Lancaster County. I have not been given anything concrete though.Brad Myershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01884406142470585950noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3458521722599009560.post-13956107910167813162011-10-06T05:12:00.036-04:002011-10-07T08:39:52.443-04:00New Shippensburg Emergency Services Building...
Wow! it was great to be cut off from the outside world for a week.

Work may have picked up at the WEFR buidling but the last time I was there things were progressing slowly. These were taken on September 21, 2011, additional stone had been brought in and laid, wiring had begun, pipes were put in place for drains and the engine room walls were being insulated as these were taken. The second photo for those that do not know is from the hallway door of the gear room. I did not get up last week because of being away but I do hope to make the trip being work days this week. Once I do I will try to get them on here as quickly as possible.

I mentioned WEFR apparatus in the titile. The company's fire police vehichle has been removed from service and sold. After traveling less than 200 miles between inspections and the fact that it needed work it was placed out of service at the end of August. Company members voted at the regular meeting to dispose of the unit. It was stripped of all its items and sold to a local man that is going to remove the motor and scrap the remaining parts.

The Vigilant's new building is coming along well and I really hope to start posting on it soon. I am using something new on blogger so I hope this post turns okay, if it works the photographs should appear larger on the main screen.
I stopped and got a few photos of the Vigilant building and was heading down King Street when I noticed a group of men setting on the steps of the old Barbour Funeral home. As I was riding by they pointed to the Vigilant station and the work going on there. I just got lucky that I showed up as Brechbill & Helman the Vigilant's general contractors were about to remove the bell from the tower above the building. Not wanting to miss some history and a chance to see the bell up close I stopped and photograph this event. There was about 10 guys watching many with strong roots to the Viggies, three generations of Nehf's, two generations of Myers's J.D. Byers and a few others.

The information on one side of the bell is posted with the photo, the other side says Vigilant Fire Co. organized Feby. 22, 1843. The bell will be cleaned up and placed in the the new buidling when completed. For some history of the bell click this link for a previous post. This bell is like a fire apparatus bell having been in all three buidlings the Vigilant's have occupied. I am just glad I got to witness this event.

Brad Myershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01884406142470585950noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3458521722599009560.post-70722303195732137952011-09-14T08:29:00.002-04:002011-09-14T08:34:59.253-04:00Building Updates...Sorry no photographs today, after a week of rain and working it is hard to type on this thing when I can be riding the bike. I traveled to Shippensburg yesterday and photographed the work being done on the new Shippensburg Emergency Services Building, I am sorry but that is just to much to say so from now on I will refer to it as what it is the Vigilant Hose Company Station. Block is being laid and most of the buildings foot print is starting to show. I also got to see the floor plans of the building but like a dumb ass I did not photograph them, maybe next time. As for the WEFR building nothing has been done since I was there last Monday. When I stopped I was informed that the construction company said it was to wet.
I did have a bonus by stopping in Shippensburg yesterday, but you will have to wait until tomorrow morning to see it.Brad Myershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01884406142470585950noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3458521722599009560.post-19607519634130705112011-09-08T04:48:00.001-04:002011-10-05T13:21:20.212-04:00Quick Post On SAEMS... Just a quick post today and maybe my last for a week as I am back to work today and it looks like it will be the tour from hell. My guess is I wont be back home much before next week sometime, I have worked to many floods in this city and I hope it will be my last one. When I photographed the WEFR building on Labor Day I noticed the new sign on the building advertising SAEMS Station 2 and the bus sitting out back. This is the first time I have seen the bus there. Before anyone gets there panties in a bunch I only stop by once a week so maybe it is there more often. I did try to add a video of the trusses being set on the WEFR addition but blogger did not want to cooperate.Brad Myershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01884406142470585950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3458521722599009560.post-4421579580853635072011-09-07T05:12:00.001-04:002011-09-07T05:12:00.275-04:00You Are Up To Date On The New WEFR Addition...

A good view of the rear, engine bays on the left and gear room in the center. All of these were taken on Monday September 5, 2001. As you can see in the last photograph some brick work was started and looks like it will match up very nice. With the exception of the brick work the outside of the building is getting wrapped up, the earth has been leveled off in the engine bays and the outside are cleaned up. The first two views show how the project is coming along and looks like it will be a great looking building. A doubt much work was done yesterday since we are in the middle of the monsoon season here in Central Pa. , this all coming right after our earthquake season. With the weather and work I will probably not get by again this week until Saturday or Sunday.

Brad Myershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01884406142470585950noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3458521722599009560.post-91827102604262355802011-09-05T05:24:00.000-04:002011-09-05T05:24:00.164-04:00We Are Almost Caught Up...

These photographs were taken on August 30, 2011. The roof has been finished, the second floor of the watch room is on and dirt was being moved in the engine bays. In the next to last photograph you can see how the roof was cut into the existing engine room roof, this was delayed until after the hurricane past and by now it should also be sheeted. I will be back today to take more photographs and try to have them posted by Tuesday or Wednesday bringing you up to date. This week I will start the new Vigilant building posts.

I assume I am since only a couple of you are watching. I was trying to keep the folks that moved away informed but I seem to only be getting to the past Mayor on a regular basis. I guess when I took a break from posting I lost most of you. We are almost caught up with the construction on this building after posting five straight days. All of these were taken on August 26, 2011. I have mentioned do not feel at this point I need to say much about the photos as you should be recognizing the areas of the building by now. These photos as well as all my other posts of the building are in a timeline with the first shot to the last shot. I was up at the beginning of the week and photographed the progress again and they will be coming soon, I hope to get back by Monday again if I am not forced to stay in the hell hole they call a firehouse I work at.

By this time roof truss were to be set but rain and other complications delayed this to the following week. Earlier in the day the walls were filled with concrete to ready them for the trusses. I know WEFR has been doing a week by week update but I am hoping that the additional images will give you a better over all view of the construction process. It will also provide another form of documentation for history.

We are getting caught up and hopefully by early next week I will have you up to date. I hope these photographs are showing those of you who do not live around here different views of the building and fills in all the gaps.

I attempted to do this at work but CS5 didn't want to work with my new NEF files forcing me to try this at home. I have made it a point to travel to DShippensburg atleast once a week to photograph the progress of the Vigilant and WEFR buildings. With that said I have many photographs and I am going to try my best to bring you up to date and then try and stay on time.

When I last left you with the August 1 post I covered the ground breaking on July 27. Since then much progess has been made and the building is really taking shape. I will not bore you with details on the photo since I am assuming you are all firefighters and have an understanding of building construction. If you do not it time to hit the books as you are lacking an important tool in your arsenal as a firefighter. All of these images were taken on August 4, 2011. I will say, take note to the window height in the watchroom and compare it to my next post. It seems a mistake was made this day that needed to be corrected.

Time is still short with other commitments and overtime but I hope to get the data base filled in again sometime soon. I have been cleaning out and trying to downsize and the one thing I found out was that I had too many duplicated items or things that I do not need. Many of the photos were duplicated when I made the WEFR book and that is why there is more WEFR photos than the other two companies, I do think I have duplicates from Viggies and CV's that I just need to get out of the file cabinet. I have more items that I will be listing soon, maybe Wednesday night like axes, K tools, toys, firefighting movie memorabilia and other items, emergency items, FAJ and Enjine Enjine magazines and many other things. I am also listing some toys and books below that I did not photograph (by the way these were all with the point and shoot camera). I think everyone that looks at this knows how to get a hold of me either by house phone or cell phone and many have my email address, if you have none of those leave a message in the comments and I will get in contact with you. The date and location was already reported in the last post so I will skip that part on move on to responding apparatus. The 31-02 box brought companies 33 (New Kingston), 31 (Silver Springs), 27 (Citizens Mechanicsburg), Truck 28 (Washies, Mechanicsburg), 25 (Monroe Twp.), Engine 23 (Upper Allen for R.I.T.) and Air 45 (Carlisle, for obvious reasons). Numerouse pieces arrived fairly quickly with the first in engine and tanker from New Kingston arriving back to back. Two handlines were quickly deployed and the fire was knowcked down rather quickly with no injuries to firefighters. I didn't speak to anyone abbout the incident so I do not have a dollar estimate or cause. According to the local news paper the occupant started the car and went back inside to return and find the garage burning.

In the video you will hear the sound of a 220 pond propane tank venting and burning you will also notice the intensity of the flames in that area (1/2 corner), yeah I don't use alphabets for areas because I know I am right and the modern fire service is wrong.

A question was posed about the incident on my last post. It is one I do not want to get into on the net but would be glad to in person. It does show the difference in the world we live in when it comes to the fire service and the different areas. NOW BEFORE ANYONE STARTS I AM NOT MONDAY MORNING QUARTERBACKING OR PICKING ON ANYONE, I AM JUST SHOWING HOW DIFFERENT AREAS WORK. This call required the response of at least 10 rigs from seven different departments and maybe as many as 50 firefighters. If you put the same fire in Harrisburg you would have gotten four rigs with nine firefighters, a lieutenant and either or a Battalion Chief or Captain. Now we are lucky enough to have hydrants every few hundred feet and people paid at station to respond right away. At different parts through out the county the response of apparatus may have been different. My guess is in DC you would have gotten many more rigs than in Harrisburg and probably more men than on this call.

Do I have a point? Not really but if there is one it is that the public should hold their criticism unless they are educated enough or part of the solution. Often I hear why do they run so many fire trucks? The answer is because you need to ask that question instead of stepping up and volunteering to be part of the solution. I do this for a living and love every second of it (I hate the politics part, but that is another post), but all these people are doing this for free, often with not even a thank you.

And nothing brought about me getting on my soap box, sometimes I just feel like climbing up on it and starting. Besides now that the end of the year, beginning of the year battle for me at work is over I am still in full combat mode. Now to take a month or two off and then prepare for the same battle at the end of this year.
Brad Myershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01884406142470585950noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3458521722599009560.post-753987792614702562010-12-31T13:14:00.008-05:002010-12-31T13:46:58.436-05:00A New Post, And A Fire, Not A Shippensburg Fire But A Fire...

Wow! it really has been a long time since my last post. I want to thank the few of you that posted supportive comments on my last post and that went out and signed our petition, I guess there is about seven of you that remember the brotherhood. That is so very sad. Soon I will make a new post on what has happened in the last 25 days in Harrisburg. Lets just say it has been a crazy and busy time period.

An incident that occurred yesterday morning (12-30-10) prompted me to make a post today as I planned nothing more for today except for hockey, football and beer. Did I say beer?, I meant good old Porter beer and winter ale. After getting home a little late from work yesterday morning I was making breakfast when at 9:16 a.m. Cumberland County 911 toned out area companies for a reported garage fire at 160 Texaco Road in Silver Springs Township, Cumberland County. With Texaco Road being just behind the house I though I would get the camera out dust it off and see if it still worked. Looking out the back window at the header gave me all the incentive I needed and off I went. I arrived the same time as the incident commander and ahead of the fire apparatus. The photos go on a time line in order and as you can see the garage was well involved upon my arrival. It was a one and a half story block and frame two car unattached garage with one car inside. In photo two you can see when the springs left loose that held the door up allowing it to come down. This is just one of many dangers a firefighter faces on these types of calls along with flammable liquids, floor pits, pesticides and other items stored in the building. Photo three shows the lines man on the first in engine stretching an attack line to extinguish the blaze. I must say he did a very good job in deploying the line. In the last two photos he and his partner begin attacking the fire.

Within the next few days I will make another post on this fire with a few more photos and some video. And hopefully next week I will post about what has been going on in the city recently. With the show of support we received from this site compared to my photography site I do not know if or when this one will be back to regular postings.

For now I hope everyone out there had a safe and joyous Christmas and an equally safe and Happy New Year.

Brad Myershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01884406142470585950noreply@blogger.com3
