On December 11, 1971 at 1:28 p.m., firemen were alerted for a house fire four miles west of Newville, Newville R.D. 2. Arriving firemen found a well-involved house. By the time firemen from three companies had the blaze extinguished all that was left standing was the chimney. A 21-month-old boy was killed in the fire. A damage estimate was not available. The
Vigilant Hose Company Stations 1 & 2 assisted at the scene.
