WEFR Building and Apparatus Update...

Sorry for the delays in posting the building updates but in Northern Pa. the Elk rut is taking place and I spent all last week cut off from civilization.  Wow! it was great to be cut off from the outside world for a week. 

Work may have picked up at the WEFR buidling but the last time I was there things were progressing slowly.  These were taken on September 21, 2011, additional stone had been brought in and laid, wiring had begun, pipes were put in place for drains and the engine room walls were being insulated as these were taken.  The second photo for those that do not know is from the hallway door of the gear room.  I did not get up last week because of being away but I do hope to make the trip being work days this week.  Once I do I will try to get them on here as quickly as possible.

I mentioned WEFR apparatus in the titile.  The company's fire police vehichle has been removed from service and sold.  After traveling less than 200 miles between inspections and the fact that it needed work it was placed out of service at the end of August.  Company members voted at the regular meeting to dispose of the unit.  It was stripped of all its items and sold to a local man that is going to remove the motor and scrap the remaining parts.

The Vigilant's new building is coming along well and I really hope to start posting on it soon.  I am using something new on blogger so I hope this post turns okay, if it works the photographs should appear larger on the main screen.

Oh and on the brite side I am now down to one year four months and thirteen days before I can retire.  But who is counting.

You Are Up To Date On The New WEFR Addition...

With the exception of the work that was done on Tuesday these photographs will bring everyone up to date on the project. All of these were taken on Monday September 5, 2001. As you can see in the last photograph some brick work was started and looks like it will match up very nice. With the exception of the brick work the outside of the building is getting wrapped up, the earth has been leveled off in the engine bays and the outside are cleaned up. The first two views show how the project is coming along and looks like it will be a great looking building. A doubt much work was done yesterday since we are in the middle of the monsoon season here in Central Pa. , this all coming right after our earthquake season. With the weather and work I will probably not get by again this week until Saturday or Sunday.

We Are Almost Caught Up...

I almost have you caught up on the WEFR building addition. These photographs were taken on August 30, 2011. The roof has been finished, the second floor of the watch room is on and dirt was being moved in the engine bays. In the next to last photograph you can see how the roof was cut into the existing engine room roof, this was delayed until after the hurricane past and by now it should also be sheeted. I will be back today to take more photographs and try to have them posted by Tuesday or Wednesday bringing you up to date. This week I will start the new Vigilant building posts.

More Of WEFR's Addition...

I am sorry to be boring everyone with the photos of WEFR's building. I assume I am since only a couple of you are watching. I was trying to keep the folks that moved away informed but I seem to only be getting to the past Mayor on a regular basis. I guess when I took a break from posting I lost most of you. We are almost caught up with the construction on this building after posting five straight days. All of these were taken on August 26, 2011. I have mentioned do not feel at this point I need to say much about the photos as you should be recognizing the areas of the building by now. These photos as well as all my other posts of the building are in a timeline with the first shot to the last shot. I was up at the beginning of the week and photographed the progress again and they will be coming soon, I hope to get back by Monday again if I am not forced to stay in the hell hole they call a firehouse I work at.

The Work Continues...

Roof trusses have arrived and are the building is almost ready for them.

The masonry work is complete and the ties are in place ready for the brick work.

The view from the gear room showing the two doors (in and out of the engine room) and door way leading to the front hall and watch room. This is where five of us were at when the great earthquake struck the area. The wall in the upper right of the photo that connects to the front wall made knocking sounds and was swinging back and forth. Thankfully it did not fall and we were all safe. On a side note I had one lawn chair topple over from the great quake but I plan to rebuild.

All of these photographs were taken on August 23, 2011. By this time roof truss were to be set but rain and other complications delayed this to the following week. Earlier in the day the walls were filled with concrete to ready them for the trusses. I know WEFR has been doing a week by week update but I am hoping that the additional images will give you a better over all view of the construction process. It will also provide another form of documentation for history.

Getting Caught Up On The Building...

Wow! posts three days in a row and I am shooting for all five days this week. All of these photographs were taken on August 18, 2011. Even though that was only 13 days ago it would seem that I getting you caught up on the building, but the rate that they are going every time I visit to take photographs much has been done. We are getting caught up and hopefully by early next week I will have you up to date. I hope these photographs are showing those of you who do not live around here different views of the building and fills in all the gaps.

WEFR's Addition Is Going Up...

So far I am keeping my promise, this is two days in a row. All of these photos were taken on August 10, 2011. As you can see construction is moving rather quickly. These views show the doorways along the side and gives you a good idea of what the building will look like. I did not forget about the Shippensburg Emergency Services building, once I get you up to date with the WEFR addition I will bring you up to speed on there new building.

WEFR Addition Update...

Sorry for the delay, between work and pleasure I have not had much time to sit in front of this thing and get photos and posts ready. I attempted to do this at work but CS5 didn't want to work with my new NEF files forcing me to try this at home. I have made it a point to travel to DShippensburg atleast once a week to photograph the progress of the Vigilant and WEFR buildings. With that said I have many photographs and I am going to try my best to bring you up to date and then try and stay on time.

When I last left you with the August 1 post I covered the ground breaking on July 27. Since then much progess has been made and the building is really taking shape. I will not bore you with details on the photo since I am assuming you are all firefighters and have an understanding of building construction. If you do not it time to hit the books as you are lacking an important tool in your arsenal as a firefighter. All of these images were taken on August 4, 2011. I will say, take note to the window height in the watchroom and compare it to my next post. It seems a mistake was made this day that needed to be corrected.
