On March 3, 1996 at 10:00 p.m. firefighters were dispatched to a building fire at 140 High Road, Southampton Cumberland. An electrical short in a light fixture caused a fire that did heavy damage to a two-story frame workshop. Four firefighters were injured battling the blaze two from South Newton Twp. when a second floor deck collapsed under them. A damage estimate was not available. The Vigilant Hose, West End Fire and Rescue, Cumberland Valley Hose and South Newton Twp. fire companies answered the alarm.
