Family Losses Home Near Lurgan

On August 26, 1963 at 8:29 p.m. firemen were alerted to a mobile home fire on Star Route 3, near Lurgan. The occupant ignited the oil-heating unit that ignited spilled oil that spread along the fuel line to the storage tank. The tank went up in flames eventually exploding, tearing apart the rear portion of the home. There was little firemen from two companies could do to save the structure. A family of three was left homeless by the fire that caused $4,000 in damage. The Vigilant Hose Company answered the alarm. Earlier in the evening at 7:35 p.m. all three Shippensburg Fire companies responded to a vehicle fire at the Burd Street parking lot.

The photograph of the Cumberland Valley Hose Company fleet was taken in 1992 for the CCVFA convention book.

Yes in my rushing to get a photo and post ready for today I was thinking I took the photo for the 1979 convention book when it was for the 1992 convention book. None of these rigs were at CV's in 1979 except for the Lafrance, but that was before all that money was blown on it.

all that money blown.... Probably the reason all those involved in planning that event refused to bid on it as an antique. They all now sit back now and say WTF did we do that for.

That picture was for the "92" Convention. Because we didn't get the Mack Aerialscope until 82 when I was Chief,And the ALF wasn't done until Sam Cressler was Chief,Yes the Air Unit came in late 80 or early 81

Shippensburg has definatley represented the rainbow, LOL. I made a funny. I just wish I would have taken a photograph off the three companies together to show the assortment in colors. Alone they were attractive but slime lime, red & cream, bronze and cream, red & black and orange and white all together at the same time, well thats just nasty.

I was wondering if I could get some more info on the Mack Aerialscope ? I know where the truck is and planning on buying it. It still wears the original paint as in the picture and is complete. Where did you get the Mack from ? Also do you have any better pictures of it ? I am a member of the Junction Fire Co. who you sold it to. Thanks; Dave junction15@verizon.net
