Burning Brush Spreads To Buildings

On April 23, 1960 at 1:03 p.m. KGD-556 alerted Shippensburg monitors to a building fire at Shippensburg Star Route 2. The occupant was burning brush near a chicken house and left momentarily, when he returned a few minutes later the fire had spread to the shed. Just moving into the home the occupant had not had his phone hooked up and had to travel a mile to use the nearest phone. Firemen were able to contain the blaze to the chicken house and a small nearby out building. A damage estimate was not available. The Vigilant Hose Company extinguished the blaze with assistance from the Newburg Hopewell Fire Company.

WMIT, Star Route 2 would not have been one road but an area. I do not know the Star Rt or Rural Rt. areas. You would need to ask someone older than me that might remember. I would assume it was towards Newburg since they assisted on the call.

Thanks Brad, I will post the answer when I find out.

WMIT,
This is still very common in the 'Outskirts of Suburbia'. My address where I grew up, up north, is Rural Route 2 (or R.R. 2) and then a box number (ours is 34). Houses aren't addressed based upon roads or streets. As you can imagine, it makes things real interesting when the pager goes off. (i.e. Company 21 respond for the house fire, approximately 2 miles from Rt 6 on River Rd.) The farm I grew up on was RR 1 Box 293. The Rural Route is obviously based upon the postal system and a carrier's route. Hope this helps.

PS Brad, couldn't help but notice last night that Varlomov was wearing his Hershey Bears helmet. Now if only the Caps could play an entire game and catch a break or two.

TJ, Varlomov and Nuervirth both have two sided goalie mask because of being called up and spending time with the parent club. They are pretty cool mask, one side is the Caps and one side is the Bears.

I hope we can finish off Philly tonight and that the Caps extend the series in Washington.

You guys didn't show last night, what was up with that is softball more important than being able to throw ground ladders and cut roofs?
