Strong Winds Whip Barn Fire Near Big Pond
On March 13, 1959 at 4:30 p.m. firemen responded to a barn fire on Shippensburg R. R. 2, near Big Pond. A fire of undetermined origin and fanned by strong winds leveled a barn and destroyed its contents. When firemen arrived the barn had already collapsed. Damages were estimated at $2,000. The Vigilant Hose Company answered the alarm. Also during the day the Vigilant's and C.V.'s responded to the Church of God on East King Street to extinguish a fire after an oil heater tipped over.
