Child Playing With Lighter Sparks Blaze
On September 21, 2006 at 5:35 p.m. the Franklin County Communications center sent firefighters to 5395 Greenvillage Road, Greene Township for a dwelling fire. A 10-year old child playing with a lighter in a closet sparked a blaze that destroyed a 2-1/2-story frame duplex displacing ten people and killing the family dog. The occupant attempted to extinguish the fire with several pots of water before turning in the alarm. An interior attack was quickly abandoned when conditions worsened. About 70 firefighters from nine companies had the blaze under control in 45 minutes and remained on the scene almost five hours before clearing at 10:15 p.m. One firefighter was injured. A damage estimate was not available. The Vigilant Hose, Cumberland Valley Hose and West End Fire and Rescue companies operated at the scene.

Brad,
I dont get to your site as often as I would like so I thought I would post a comment here about the 1969 picture. I like the older pictures also. That is the firehouse I remember as a kid. Used to go along with my old man to "stoke the coal furnace" in the basement. Can I get a copy of that picture anywhere? TM
Brad if you need pictures of this fire Sara has some good shots of it.
TM, I will take care of this for you when I get home. I will also take care of the information you asked for.
Sparky, I have all that showed up on the web sites but didn't ask anyone for approval to use them that is wny none appear on here. Thanks.
