On July 20, 1969 at 8:11 p.m. KGD-556 alerted all Shippensburg monitors to a building fire at Shearer Hall on the Shippensburg State College campus. Fire damaged a third floor chemistry laboratory and water damaged the first and second floors. Borough fire chief Dan Orris said the fire originated in electrical wiring in the lab. Hey Guys,
I was on that call and remember it well. The important issue to remember from that night was during the fire call, it was announced to the world that "The Eagle Had Landed On The Moon" Manned first set foot on the moon while we were fighting the fire in thr Chemistry Lab. I remember the announcement from Cumb. Co. The fire is another story.
The problems identified during that fire kind of put an end to a bunch of "Old Timers"
